Live Music & Storytellers

This is a festival for you to gather with your friends and family, new and old, have a seat at a picnic table or bench or strawbale... to listen as local singer songwriters and storytellers share their impassioned stories from the stage.

Carter Tinkham, Singer-Songwriter

 

Bio: Carter Tinkham is a 12 year old seventh grader at Logan-Hocking Middle School.  Carter has been playing guitar for around three years and over the past year has started writing his own music. Carter has played the national anthem for Copperheads and Ohio University baseball, performed at Stuart’s Opera House, Happy Hollow Hootenanny, countless open mic nights and most recently at the Nelsonville Music Festival with his Stuart’s Opera House After School Music Program band Sub-zero.  When he is not playing guitar or writing music, he enjoys playing baseball and being active with his family, hiking, and kayaking.

Beverly Wilkes, Storyteller

Bio: Beverly K. Wilkes is a writer, singer, and community volunteer. For 18 years, she wrote technical reports at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. As a volunteer, she wrote two school newspapers and a church play. She retired as the grant and compliance director for the Community Housing Network, a nonprofit developer and manager of permanent supportive housing. Beverly writes and performs to share and connect with others.

Lazy Susan, Musician Group

Bio: Kelly Madewell and Iris Cooke are a local family duo playing fiddle and banjo tunes under the name Lazy Susan. While they are most often heard playing on back decks and front porches with friends, Lazy Susan has been the backdrop sound for many local events and gatherings. Known as 'old-time' or stringband music, the tunes shared by Iris and Kelly have been passed down through many generations in the Appalachian region at square dances and other get-togethers with family and friends. Lazy Susan continues the tradition of families playing these old songs together wherever people gather.

Teri Lott, Storyteller

Bio: Teri Lott spent her early years in Portsmouth, Ohio, a city nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. She enjoys telling traditional tales, original stories, and personal tales. Although Teri delights in telling tales to all ages of listeners, she especially likes to share stories with multigenerational audiences and has done so at many festivals and other venues. Rylee Bapst, Singer-Songwriter​

Bio: Rylee Bapst is a 21 year old singer/songwriter from Beaver, OH. Influenced by artists like Dave Matthews, Tyler Childers and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rylee’s unique blend of improvisational guitar playing and soulful singing makes for an unforgettable performance every time.

Nancy Devol Rose, Singer-Songwriter​

​

Bio: Nancy Devol Rose is a musician, a singer, and a songwriter who grew up in Red Row Holler, Hocking County, Haydenville, Ohio. When Nancy was ten years-old, she and her sister, Judy, began their musical careers as accordionists. They provided musical entertainment at churches and revivals, as well as many other events. In later years Nancy progressed to playing several stringed instruments, plus playing the harmonica. Nancy has recently taken up the art of yodeling to add to her musical entertainment. Nancy wrote the song, Ballad of Red Row Holler, for the Hopperville Monument Dedication in June of 2022. Nancy's interview and song can be found online at the Center For Folklore Studies - The Ohio State University. Nancy is a retired RN. She resides with her husband near Lancaster, Ohio.

Chris Michael and the Andrews, Band​

Bio: What began as socially-distanced jam sessions on a deck back in the pandemic days of 2020 quickly evolved into a dynamic musical collective, delivering unforgettable performances in intimate settings at friends' and family’s farms and homes. Chris Michael, the driving force behind the band, brings a distinctive voice and songwriting that is deserving of your time and attention. The music of the band is a compelling blend of lyrically dense songs, blending the blues and psychedelic exploration, to bring an exciting sound to what could be called folk music. The songwriting is both thoughtful and playful, weaving complex narratives that encourage listeners to pay attention while enjoying an infectious groove. With a growing repertoire of original songs and a knack for engaging live shows, Chris Michael and the Andrews are not just a band, but a community of friends, sharing a musical experience in the beautiful hills of Southeast Ohio. They’ve transformed the challenges of recent times into a celebration of creativity and community, one show at a time.

Nolan Collins, Singer-Songwriter​

Bio: Hailing from Gallipolis, his music derives from the many years of country music as well as across genres. His writing reflects useless time consuming contemplations swirling in his mind, what he himself has lived through and done, and stories from the people and world around him. The main driving force behind his music is the desire to make folks dance while also causing them to ask themselves questions.
