Every two weeks until the festival, we will share two of the photographs from keynote speaker Roger May's website, lookingatappalachia.org. Looking At Appalachia is a crowdsourced project designed to share the reality of Appalachia. We are calling on YOU, future festival attendees, to respond narratively to one of the images in 1,000 words or less, then email it to us.

We will choose one response per image to form an exhibit that will be displayed at the festival.

1. Choose one of the two featured photographs you want to write about from May's Looking at Appalachia collection.
2. Write your response in less than 1,000 words (fiction, non-fiction, documentary, ekphrastic poetry, etc).
3. Email your response to alasfestival1024@gmail.com.

Responses must be received prior to the next May Monday post, giving you two full weeks for your response.

You will be notified promptly upon acceptance.
